VIETNAM JOURNAL OF PHYSIOLOGY

The Vietnam Journal of Physiology is an official publication of the Vietnam Physiological Society under the Vietnam Medical Association. Operated under License No. 312/GP-BVHTT issued on July 23, 2002, the journal aims to publish scientific information and biomedical research in the fields of physiology and functional exploration. The journal releases 5 issues per year, including 4 issues in Vietnamese and 1 issue in English.

Since 2010, the Journal has been assigned the International Standard Serial Number ISSN 1859-2376 and included by the State Council for Professorship in the list of recognized scientific journals eligible for scoring scientific works (0–0.75 points for Medicine and 0–0.5 points for Biology).

The Vietnam Journal of Physiology is a member of Crossref. Since January 2023, the journal has implemented a double-blind online peer-review system to enhance transparency, reliability, and academic rigor.

Aims, Scope, and Publication Frequency

Aims and Scope

• Aims: To disseminate research findings, facilitate scientific exchanges, share experiences, and update new scientific knowledge in physiology, functional exploration, and related fields.

• Scope: The journal publishes original research articles, review papers, scientific updates, and short communications in Physiology and related disciplines, such as Medical Physiology, Human and Animal Physiology, Occupational Physiology, Regenerative Biomedicine, Physio-pharmacology, Sports Physiology, Social Physiology, Functional Medicine, and Functional Diagnostics.

• Priorities: High priority is given to studies with strong scientific value, practical applications, contributions to public health care and enhancement, as well as interdisciplinary research in health and biomedical sciences.

Publication Frequency

• Regular Issues: Published periodically 5 times a year. The annual English issue is published every September.

• Review Process: A manuscript is published only after receiving approval from 2 independent reviewers and the Editor-in-Chief.

• Special Issues: The journal also publishes special issues for scientific conferences and workshops. Open Access Policy

The Vietnam Journal of Physiology applies an Open Access policy for all published articles to broaden access to high-quality research findings and promote knowledge exchange. Full-text articles are made available online for free on the journal's official website (https://tapchisinhlyhoc.com.vn).

Readers have the right to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles without prior registration, fees, or permission from the Editorial Board or the authors.

Licensing and Copyright

All articles published by the Vietnam Journal of Physiology are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Readers are free to copy, distribute, transmit, and adapt the work, provided proper attribution is given to the author(s) and original publication source. Authors retain the copyright to their work while granting the Journal the right of first publication.

Publication Ethics

The Vietnam Journal of Physiology is committed to upholding publication ethics in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), adhering to COPE's Core Practices, Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors, and Guidelines on Good Publication Practices.

Clinical Case Reports

• Authors submitting Clinical Case Reports must obtain written Informed Consent from the patient or their legal guardian, authorizing the publication of clinical details and associated images in both print and online formats.

• A statement confirming that informed consent was obtained must be included within the manuscript.

• The Journal reserves the right to request a copy of the consent form during evaluation.

• Authors are encouraged to present clinical case reports according to the CARE Guidelines (CAse REport Guidelines) and submit the CARE checklist along with the manuscript.

Duties of the Editorial Board

• Publication Decisions: The Editorial Board holds full responsibility and independence in deciding which submitted manuscripts will be published. Members must abide by journal policies and legal requirements.

• Fairness & Impartiality: Editorial decisions are based solely on scientific merit, without bias. Members must ensure a transparent evaluation mechanism.

• Peer Review Management: Editors ensure a fair, unbiased, and timely review process by at least two independent external experts with relevant expertise.

• Confidentiality: Editors must preserve the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and communications with reviewers. Manuscript content must not be used for personal gain.

• Conflict of Interest: Editors must recuse themselves from processing manuscripts written by themselves, family members, or colleagues, or those involving products/services from which they benefit.

Duties of Reviewers

• Role & Professional Responsibility: Reviewers assist the Editorial Board in making editorial decisions and help authors improve manuscript quality. If a reviewer feels unqualified or unable to complete the review on time, they must promptly inform the Editorial Board and decline the invitation.

• Confidentiality: Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share reviews/information or contact authors directly without editorial permission.

• Ethical Alerts: Reviewers should remain vigilant regarding potential conflicts of interest or significant similarities/overlaps between the manuscript under review and previously published works.

• Objectivity Standards: Reviews should be conducted objectively without personal bias. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Citations of the reviewer’s (or associates') work should only be suggested for valid scientific reasons, not to inflate citation counts.

Duties of Authors

• Authorship: Authorship must be limited to individuals who made significant contributions to the research.

• Manuscript Standards: Authors must submit original research results that have not been previously published elsewhere.

• Originality, Plagiarism, & Acknowledgment: Manuscripts must be original. Proper citations or permissions are mandatory when using work or words from others.

• Data Access & Retention: Authors must present accurate data and retain research data for a reasonable period post-publication to allow validation or replication.

• Multiple / Redundant Publications: Submitting manuscripts describing essentially the same research to more than one journal is unethical.

• Conflict of Interest & Funding: All authors must disclose potential conflicts of interest (personal or financial) and acknowledge funding sources.

• Errors in Published Works: If significant errors are discovered post-publication, authors must promptly notify the Editorial Board to publish an erratum or retract the paper.

Archiving Policy & Self-Archiving

Repository Policy

The journal ensures long-term preservation and sustainable access to published scientific papers through multiple archiving systems and unique Digital Object Identifiers (DOI). Articles are indexed in systems such as Google Scholar and Vietnam Journals Online (VOJL).

Author Self-Archiving

Authors are permitted to self-archive the final published PDF version of their article immediately after publication on:

1. The author's personal website.

2. Institutional or non-profit repository servers.

Requirements for Self-Archiving:

• Clearly acknowledge the original publication source as the Vietnam Journal of Physiology.

• Include a link to the journal's website or the article's DOI.

• Self-archiving in public domain-specific or commercial repositories requires prior journal approval.

Policies on AI and Publishing Technologies

• Transparent Disclosure: Authors must explicitly declare any use of AI tools or writing assistance software (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, QuillBot, Midjourney) in the Acknowledgments or Methods section, specifying the tool name, version, vendor, and scope of use.

• Author Responsibility: AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Human authors hold sole responsibility for the scientific content, integrity, and accuracy of the manuscript.

• Usage Restrictions: AI must not replace core scientific ideation, data analysis, drawing conclusions, generating images without independent verification, or coding. Uploading unpublished/sensitive research data into public AI tools is strictly prohibited.

• Reviewers & Editors: Editors and reviewers are strictly prohibited from using AI to generate peer-review comments, evaluations, or publication decisions.

• Handling Violations: Undeclared or false statements regarding AI usage constitute scientific misconduct and may lead to manuscript rejection or article retraction.

Privacy Statement

The Vietnam Journal of Physiology complies with online data privacy regulations. Personal information entered into the journal's Online Publishing Management System will be used exclusively for stated journal operations and will not be shared with third parties.

• Standard Review (60–120 days): 1,000,000 VND / article.

• Fast-Track Review (14–60 days): 2,000,000 VND / article (Priority given to members of the Vietnam Physiological Society).

Peer Review Process

The journal employs a double-blind peer-review system. The entire workflow takes 1 to 6 months on average and is managed online:

1. Submission: Authors submit manuscripts via https://tapchisinhlyhoc.com.vn.

2. Initial Screening (1–3 weeks): Plagiarism check, formatting, and scope checks. The manuscript is sent to the Department Head to assign 2 reviewers if suitable.

3. Peer Review (4–6 weeks): Reviewers evaluate and recommend: Accept as is, Minor revisions, Major revisions, Revise & resubmit, or Reject. A 3rd reviewer is invited in case of conflicting decisions.

4. Post-Review Processing: Authors revise according to feedback within 2–3 weeks (maximum 2 review cycles).

5. Publication: Final approval by the Editor-in-Chief based on scientific quality, relevance, and timeliness. A primary author may publish a maximum of 2 articles per issue.
