THE COMPOUND MUSCLE ACTION POTENTIAL (CMAP) WHEN PERFORMING REPETITIVE ULNAR NERVE STIMULATION IN HEALTHY ADULTS AGED 20 – 24

Abstract

Objectives: (1) Establish normative data of CMAP amplitude, CMAP area with RNS in ulnar nerve at rest in healthy people aged between 20 and 24; (2) Establish the changes of CMAP amplitude and area after exercise testing and the correlation between them in this objects.


Methods: we performed research in 44 healthy students of either sex who were at the ages of between 20 and 24, then recorded CMAP; research indexs were CMAP amplitude and area before and after exercise testing.


Results: With repetitive nerve stimulation at rest, mean CMAP amplitude was 6,33 ± 1,50 mV and tended to increase in stimulus train but no more than 4%. Mean CMAP area was 18,61 ± 6,26 mVms and tended to decrease in stimulus train but no more than 1%. There were no post exercise facilitation and exhaustion. There was a correlation between amplitude and area, amplitude decrement and area decrement. The correlation coefficient were 0.7 and 0.6 respectively.


Conclusion: There was a change in CMAP amplitude and area when performing repetitive nerve stimulation and exercise testing.
