Abstract

Objective: Studying the rate and some features of infection in patients with multiple myeloma and analysis the relationship between some factors and infection. Methods: The study was on 169 the patients. Clinical, microbiology, radiology was done. Results: Rate of infection was 47,9% with 41,79% were microbiologically defined. Isolated pathogens: E. coli, Staphyloccocus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia. ISS stage ≥2 and ECOG status 2-4, age ≥ 50 were factors with significantly higher risk. Conclusion: Infection is a complication with high rate and difficult to identify microbiological etiology. ISS, ECOG status and age are factors related to infections.
