Evaluating the Incidence of Vertebral Fractures in Vietnamese Postmenopausal Women in Northern Vietnam by Genant and Eastell Methods

Abstract
Objectives: To determine and compare the incidence of vertebral fracture by Genant and Eastell methods. Subjects: Including 281 menopausal women aged 42 to 86 who were examined at Bach Mai Hospital and satisfied the research criteria. Methods: A cross-sectional study to determine the incidence of vertebral fractures by Genant and Eastell methods. Results: The incidence of vertebral fractures based on vertebrae number by Genant and Eastell methods was 138 (3.78%) and 95 (2.6%), respectively. The most frequently fractured vertebra was L1 by both methods. Most of the women with vertebral fractures in this study had grade 2 fractures or fractures at 2 or more positions. Conclusion: The incidence of vertebral fractures is higher by the Genant method than by the Eastell method.
