Abstract

Objectives: determination of augmentation indexes of arterial pulse wave in military pilots. Methods: Cross-sectional study of 123 Vietnamese male military pilots. The indexes include Alp and Aip75. Results: Augmentation indexes of arterial pulse wave in military pilots: augmentation index (Alp): -0.73 ± 16.55(%); augmentation index at 75 pulses per minute of heart rate (Alp75): -0.61± 14.74(%). The values of Alp, Alp75 were statistically significant positive corellation with age (Alp: r=0.539, p<0.01; Alp75: r=0.612, p<0.01) and blood pressure (Corellation with systolic blood pressure: Alp: r=0.183, p<0.05; Alp75: г=0.327, p<0.01. Corellation with diastolic blood pressure: Alp: r=0.298, p<0.01; Alp75: r=0.462, p<0.01). Alp and Alp75 were higher in military pilots with more flight hours (p<0,05) and no association with BMI, dyslipidemia (p> 0.05). Conclusion: There is increase in Alp and Aip75 and correlation with age, blood pressure and flight hours in Vietnam military pilots.
