Abstract

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a plasma cell malignant pathology, which is sensitive to infection esspecially pneumonia. Objectives: 1. To describe characteristics of lesions on X-ray and microbiological cause in MM patients with pneumonia, 2. To analyze the treatment of research group. Methods: there are 114 patients with pneumina among 307 MM patients. They were X-rayed, sputum and brochial fulid cultured and treated by antibiotic combination. Results: The proportion of MM is 37,1% (114/307): 42,1% is community-acquired pneumonia and 57,9% is hospital-acquired pneumonia. The most common lesions on X-ray are consolidation and ground glass opacity. Biological cause which detected on 25/114 patients with pneumonia is Gram-negative bacteria including E.Coli, Klebsiella, Acinetobecter, Pseudomonas. The recovery rate after pneumonia treatment is 89%, the death rate is 11%. The treatment regimen is mostly Cephalosporin and Quinolon combination. Conclusion: Pneumonia accounts for a high proportion in MM patients with mainly consolidation and GGO lesions; the common cause is Gram-negative bacteria; reliable used regimen is Cephalosporin (3rd or 4th generation) and Quinolon (2nd – Ciprofloxacin).
