STUDYDING ON RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN CONCENTRATIONS OF PLASMA SEROTONIN AND THE ANXIETY SYMPTOM, THE COGNITIVE DECLINE SYMPTOM IN PATIENTS WITH PD

Abstract
Objective: Investigating the relationships between concentrations of plasma serotonin
and the anxiety symptom, the cognitive decline symptom in patients with PD. Methods: A prospective, cross-sectional study, 45 patients with Parkinson's disease and 40 without Parkinson's disease. Results: Almost patients in PD group were over 50 years old with 91.1%, in which from 60 to 69 years old was 42.2%. The mean age of the patient's group was 63.98±9.84 years old; the control group was 61.77±9.53 years old. There was no significant difference between the two groups with p>0.05. The level of serotonin in plasma in the patient with parkinson group (154.20±1.,49 ng/ml) was decreased significantly compared to the level of serotonin in plasma in the patient without parkinson group (184.05±7.92 ng/ml). The level of serotonin in plasma in the anxiety group (143.45±21.61ng/ml) and cognitive impairment group (145.74±20.68 ng/ml) was decreased significantly compared to that in the non-anxiety group (158.57±11.19 ng/ml) and non-cognitive impairment group (158.87±11.60 ng/ml). there was a positive correlation between the level of serotonin and the score of cognitive impairment with correlated coefficients r = 0.559. Conclusion: the present study provided new evidence of relationships between concentrations of plasma serotonin and the anxiety symptom, the cognitive decline symptom in patients with PD
