Effects of Vietnam Seaweeds to Lowering Blood Glucose in Experimental Diabetes Animals

Abstract
Objectives: Evaluating the effects of Vietnam seaweeds on decreasing serum glucose and increasing body weight in a mouse model of diabetes. Subjects and Methods: 48 Swiss mice were injected intraperitoneally with a single dose of 140 mg/kg STZ. After that, these mice were randomly separated into 4 experimental groups, which were administered 0.36 g/kg, 0.48 g/kg, 0.72 g/kg and 0.9 g/kg Vietnam seaweeds daily for 7 days. Results: There was a significant decrease in blood glucose and a significant increase in body weight of mice after treatment with Vietnam seaweeds (0.72 g/kg and 0.9 g/kg doses), compared to before treatment. Conclusion: These results provided evidence of the effects of Vietnam seaweeds in lowering blood glucose in experimental diabetic animals and are a basis for using Vietnam seaweeds to treat diabetes in humans.
