CHARACTERISTICS OF APHASIA AFTER ACUTE STROKE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: (1) Determine the rate, type and score of aphasia on the acute stroke patients. (2) Determine some risks of aphasia on the acute stroke patients. (3) Assess the early recovery of aphasia and complication on the acute stroke patients. Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 126 patients with acute stroke with the objective description of the characteristics of speech disorders in these patients. Results showed that the rate of aphasia was 62.7%, in which there were 54.4% mild, 35.4% medium, 10.2% severe; types of aphasia: 49.4% Broca, 11.4% transcortical motor, 10.1% global aphasia, 7.6% conduction, 6.3% Wernicke, 6,3% mixed transcortical aphasia, 5.1% anomic aphasia, 3.8% transcortical sensory. Dominant hemisphere lesions, severity of NIHSS's level and middle cerebral artery lesions at risk for loss of language were 3.14 times, 8 times and 3.93 times more than other patients. The rate of language early recovery was 49.4% and 65.8% patients had sequelae of aphasia after discharge. Conclusion: aphasia is a common symptom and sequelae of stroke.
