CHARACTERISTICS OF ULTRASONIC VOCALIZATION IN 3 TO 10 PNDS MICE

Abstract

l In neonatal mice, isolation induced ultrasonic vocalization (iUSV) expresses not only i the development of communication between a pub and its dam, but also the emotional * resporise of the pub to negative stimuli. This study recorded iUSVs that emitted from 60 _ mice of 3-10 postnatal days (PNDs) in order to evaluate rodent vocalization ' charateristics. The results showed that ultrasound recorded can be categorized into two ? pandwidths of above and below 35 kHz. In which, sound with frequencies higher than 35 Ỉ kHz having the communicative meaning expressed no difference between genders, but \ the number of mice emitted jUSVS increased from 6-10 PNDs compared with that of themselves in previous PNDs. Among mice that emitted iUSVS, the number of calls also ’ expressed equally between males and females, but mice from 8 day-old boosted their ¡ calls, greater in females. Other parameters (frequency, amplitude, power, and entropy) - were identical between genders. Uncommunicative sounds with frequencies lower than 35 kHz expressed no difference between male and female mice.
