Abstract

The study was designed as cross-sectional on 281 post-menopausal women. The study aim is to measure the heights of normal vertebral spine and describe the characteristic of vertebral fractures commonly seen in post-menopausal women. The results showed that the heights of spine among post-menopausal women in this study are similar to that of their counterparts in Southern Vietnam and of other Asian population, put lower than that of Caucasian women. The prevalence of vertebral fracture of post- menopausal women in this study was 19.9% and majority of them came to hospital when it was already at the second stage of fracture. Among the fractures recorded in this study, weage fractures were the most common (41%), followed by compression (36%) and biconcavity (23%). The most common position of fracture occurred at L1, L2, L3, TT1, T12.
