EFFECT OF INTENSITY EXERCISES ON AEROBIC AND ANAEROBIC CAPACITY OF VIETNAMESE MARTIAL ARTS STUDENTS IN HO CHI MINH CITY UNIVERSITY OF SPORTS

Abstract

We examined the effects of intensity exercises on Vietnamese
martial arts students in Hochiminh city university of sport (HSU). Twenty one male
students in traditional martial arts field (19.8±0.8 years, height: 169.7±3.4cm, 60.4 ± 2.8kg
weight) with level 1 and grandmasters level in HSU participated in this study. Students
were divided into 3 groups (each group content 7 students). Group 1 performed punching
techniques in 1 minute, group 2 performed kick technique in 1 minute, group 3 performed
combine punch and kick technique in 1 minute. All exercises have been done in 1 minute
x 9 sets (1-minute break between the sets), training 3 sections/week x 8 weeks. Shuttle
run test applications to assess aerobic endurance (VO2max) and Wingate test to assess
anaerobic endurance (relative peak power-RPP and anaerobic capability-AP). After


experient, the result showed that 3 forms of exercise have a positive impact to improve
VO2max significantly (group 1 increased 8.96%, group 2 increased, group 3 increased by
6.8%). The anaerobic endurance increased in 3 groups, but the statistically significant
was only found in group 3 (RPP increased 10% and AP increased 4.6%). However,
VO2max just at an average level (group 1: 52.96 ml/kg/min, group 2: 51.46ml/kg/min,
group 3: 51.87ml/kg/min); the anaerobic endurance is also certain distance compared to
athletes of international level in several other martial arts. (Group 3: RPP: 11.89W kg and
AP: 7.91W/kg)
