Abstract

•  Residual volume (RV) and total lung capacity (TCL) are important parameters for diagnosis of emphysema. The body plethysmography is a new method that has been applying in some hospitals and research centers in Vietnam, however, the reference data for healthy adult is not enough, if any. Therefore, this study was conducted with aim is to determine TCL, RV and RV/TLC parameters of healthy Vienamese people aged 18-25 using plethysmography method. A cross-sectional study was appled in 95 healthy Vietnamese people with ages 18-25. The result showed that the TCL index of men and women were 5,62±0,67(L) and 4,26±0,63(L), respectively. The RV index of men and women were 1,84+0,64 (L) và 1,48±0,43(L), respectively. The RV/TLC of men and women were similar and were 34,0±7(%) và 33,0±10 (%), respectively. The TCL and RV of Vietnamese people were lower than that of other race with the same gender and age, therefore, it is necessary to establish a reference data for Vietnamese people.
