Abstract

Objective: Determine the 18FDG uptake characteristics of the tumor, lymph nodes, metastatic lesions in patients with esophageal cancer. Methods: 32 esophageal cancer patients were performed 18FDG PET/CT before the treatment. Results: 18FDG uptake of esophageal tumors was increased, SUVmax from 3.1 to 44.8; average value 17.9 ± 9.2; It increased with long size and thick size of the tumor, markedly different between tumors size <5cm and > 5cm (p = 0.009); It increased with invasive degree and stage of tumor. SUVmax is low when patients stage I-II, rising from stagee III. At the IV stage, SUVmax of tumors tends to decrease. SUVmax of bone and liver metastatic lesions is higher than SUVmax of lung metastases (p<0.01).Conclusion: 18FDG uptake SUV max can be used to provide prognostic information for esophageal cancer patients.
