FUNCTIONAL DISORDER OF EYESIGHT AND EYE DISEASES AMONG ELECTRONIC WORKERS

Abstract

A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in two electronic
companies in Vinh Phuc province in order to survey the functional disorder of eyesight
and eye diseases among electronic workers and to recommend some preventive
solutions. By testing type and auto refractometer method, the obtained results showed
that: the incidence rate of visual decrease among workers was 19.4% right eyes, 18.5%
left eyes. The rate of visual decrease among workers over two work year (27.9% right
eyes and 27.1% left eyes) was higher than among workers below two work year (15.8%
right eyes and 14.8% left eyes). The rate of myopia among workers was 90.0% right eyes
and 87.4% left eyes, in which light level myopia was majority (87.8% right eyes and
85.9% left eyes). The rate of myopic astigmatism was 47.1% right eyes and 46.5% left
eyes. The rate of ophthalmic diseases among workers was 2.2%, mainly including
conjunctivitis 1.7%. The author recommended that to strengthen health education and
training, especially health care and prevention of ophthalmic diseases among electronic
workers and to implement periodic health examination to timely detects and actively treats
trauma and ophthalmic diseases to prevent complications.
