Abstract

Background: Headache is a disease and also a symptom.
Objectives: to determine characteristics of EEG in chronic headache patients and some
factors related to the abnormalities on EEG in these patients. Subject was chronic
headache patients examined at the Can Tho medicine and pharmacy University Hospital.
This was cross sectional study. Results: the rate of abnormal EEG was 26%. The three
types of abnormal EEG was: low voltage EEG (11%), slow theta waves (8.2%) and slow
delta waves (8.2%). Chronic headache patients, who had memory impairment
assessment based on three items of the Batterie d'Cognitive Estimation 96 - BEC 96, had
abnormality rate EEG is 9.5 times higher than patients who did not have memory
impairment. Conclusions: chronic headache patients should be evaluated EEG to find
early abnormalities.
