Abstract

Objective: evaluating the changes of psychophysiological indexes in medical staffs at National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Methods: cross sectional method, assessing some psycho-physiologycal indexes (heart rate, simple reaction time, critical flicker frequency - CFF - and short-term memory test) before and after workshift.

Results: The working conditions of HCWs in Obstetrics and Gynecology hostpital has many specific factors: The working environment has many disadvantages to health, high risk of infection, high intensity, high work responsibilities, night duty... Occupational stress is one of the issues that need attention in HCWs. The rate of high stress score in HCWs is 9.1%; The average stress score is 61.3% and a low stress score is 29.6%. The rate of stress in HCWs was 70.4%. After workshift, increased heart rate (83.8±7.2 beats/min in comparison with 78.8±7.1 beats/min) (p<0.001); prolonged simple reaction time (276±16ms in comparison with 194±7.3ms) (p<0.001); reduced CFF (35.2±1.8Hz in comparison with 36.0±1.7Hz) (p<0.001); reduced score of short-term memory (2.8±0.8 score in comparison with 3.9±0.9 score)); manifested workload of HCWs.

Conclusion: The subjects has accumulated stress and strain in the working, specially that there are 3.5% of them in the severe condion that are not able to be against the stress, they need to be intervented.
