Abstract

Objectives: evaluate result of tetany test on the EMG and the factors related to in patients with latent tetany syndrome.


Methods: cross sectional descriptive study was conducted on 55 patients with latent tetany syndrome.


Results: there were 62.8% patients with tetany test (+); Specifically, the positive percentage of each period include; 11.8% patients with anemic phase, 8.8% patients with reduced pressure phase, and 79.4% patients with hyperventilated phase. There were statistically significant associations among musculoskeletal symptoms, symptoms of respiratory-circulatory systems, psychological symptoms, Schvostek’s sign, Trousseau sign with tetany test (+). The association between hypocalcemia and tetany test (+) were not statistically significant.


Conclusion: tetany test can discover latent tetany syndrome objectively.
