MATERNAL LEFT VENTRICULAR SYSTOLIC AND DIASTOLIC FUNCTION HAVE CHANGED DURING NORMAL PREGNANCY

Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate changes in left ventricular diastolic and systolic function during normal pregnancy. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 104 normal pregnant women who measured echocardiography examination to estimate left ventricular left ventricular diastolic and systolic function from 1st to 3rd trimester pregnancy. Results: The values of cardiac output (CO), cardiac index (CI), cardiac work index (CWI) increased according to from 1st to 3rd trimester pregnancy (p < 0,001). The prevalence of increased CO (> 8L×phút$^{-1}$) and CI (> 4,3 L×phút$^{-1}$×m$^{-2}$) raised from 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester pregnancy (CO: 3.8%; 6.7% and 25.0%; p < 0.001, respectively and CI: 15.4%; 36.5% and 56.7%; p < 0.001, respectively). The values of total vascular reisistance (TVR) and prevalence of increasing TVR (≥1400 dynes×s$^{-1}$×cm$^{-5}$) decreased according to from 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester pregnancy [1243.5± 281.4 (22.1%); 1029.3 ± 179.2 (3.8%) and 955.2 ± 247.2 (5.8%), respectively] (p < 0.001). The values of the tissue Doppler e' velocity (Ve') was decreased and the rates of diastolic dysfunction (Ve'< 10 cm/s) was increased from 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester [17.2 ± 2.3 (0%); 15.0 ±1.8 (0) and 13.2 ± 3.1 (11.5%), respectively] (p < 0.001). The values of Tei and Tei' index, prevalence of increased Tei and Tei' index were increased according to from 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester [with Tei: 0.41 ± 0.09 (3.8%); 0.46 ± 0.07 (4.8%); 0.49 ± 0.10 (15.4%), respectively (p < 0.001), respectively and with Tei': 0.42 ± 0.09 (5.8%); 0.45 ± 0.06 (7.7%); 0.47 ± 0.08 (13.5%) respectively (p < 0,001), respectively]. Conclusion: The CO, CI, CWI, Tei and Tei' index increased and TVR, Ve' decreased from from 1st to 3rd trimester normal pregnancy.
