STUDYING ON ALTERNATION OF BLINK REFLEX IN PATIENTS WITH PERIPHERAL VII NERVE PALSY

Abstract
Objectives: Comment on the alternation of blink reflex in patients with peripheral VII nerve palsy. Subjects and methods: 47 patients with primary peripheral VII nerve palsy (Bell’s palsy) or Herpes zoster; disease duration ≤ 2 weeks and did not receive any previous treatment. Blink reflex was recorded on a 4-channel Viking Quest machine. Results: Of 47 patients, 91.49% patients had abnormal manifestations at least one parameter of blink reflex. Before treatment, the latency of R1, R2 and R2 parameter was 13.93 ± 1.57; 40,71 ± 8,68 and 41,33 ± 7,90, respectively, statistically significant longer than in the normal side. After treatment, number of patients who completely lost their blink reflex decreased from 57.45% to 25.53%. Conclusion: Patients with peripheral VII nerve palsy with blink reflex abnormalities accounted for 91.49%.
