Abstract

Objective: To determine alterations of alpha wave parameters in patients with schizophreni (SZC) comparing with those in healthy people. Methods: analyzing electroencephalograms (EEG) from the two groups consisting of 29 patients with SZC and 29 healthy people for their EEG alphy wave parameters using EEGLAB running on the MatLab environment. Results: parameters of alph wave in SZC group had altered changes as lower than those in the controls, including: i) the alpha power in frontal, temporal and occipital areas; ii) the alpha amplitude in the frontal and occipity areas; iii) the alpha peak frequency in the occipital area; and iv) the relative ratio of alpha power in the occipital and temporal areas. Conclusion: The results had provided useful information on alterations of alpha wave parameters in several cerebral cortices in the schizophrenia and norma Vietnamese people. Those parameters should be considered to support for diagnosing and prognosing in patients with SZC.
