ASSESSMENT OF ACUTE TOXICITY AND LIPID-LOWERING EFFECT OF HALIMA TEA ON ENDOGENOUS HYPERLIPIDEMIA MODEL

Abstract
Objective: Assessment of acute toxicity and endogenous blood lipid-lowering effect of
Halima tea in Swiss mice. Subjects and methods:Evaluation of acute oral toxicity of Halima tea on Swiss mice according to the method of Litchfield - Wilcoxon [3]. Evaluation of lipid- lowering effect in mice causing endogenous hyperlipidemia by P-407 by Millar et al [11]., compared with Atorvastatin [11].Results: Swiss mice were orally administered Halima tea up to a maximum dose of 400g/kg/day, but no mice died, no abnormal symptoms were observed in the mice. In mice causing endogenous dyslipidemia with Poloxamer 407, Halima tea dose of 19.2 g/kg/day and 38.4 g/kg/day reduced TC, LDL-C, TG and increased HDL-C compared with model group (p <0.05), equivalent to Atorvastatin 15mg/kg/day. Conclusion: Halima tea is safe when assessing acute toxicity and has a good effect in the adjustment of dyslipidemia according
to the endogenous pathway.
