THE RATE OF ANTIMICROBIAL DESORPTION AND THE ANTIMICROBIAL EFFECT IN VITRO OF FIBRIN - CEFAZOLIN

Abstract
Objective: Determine the rate of antimicrobial desorption and the antimicrobial effect in vitro of fibrin - cefazolin. Methods: study on 4 samples of human plasma. The antibiotic concentration in serum samples secreted from cefazolin colloidal fibrin was determined by UV- Vis photometric density measurement. Antimicrobial activity was determined by measuring the diameter of the growth inhibition zone of bacteria in wells containing samples of mixed fibrin or sprinkle cefazolin. Results: the first hour, the rate of antibiotic release is 44.79 - 83.50%, at the third hour is 64.78 - 88.50%. After 24 hours, the rate of antibiotic released was 76.38 - 99.00%. Antibacterial ability appears from 6 hours, gradually increases and maintains until day 8. Conclusion: After 24 hours, the amount of antibiotic cefazolin released from fibrin glue reached nearly 100% of the original concentration. Fibrin glue is able to hold and deliver topical cefazolin for 8 days.
