Abstract
This study aims to build a model of decrease reproduction and evaluate the effect of TXCB in male rabbits. Twenty-four adult bucks were divided into three groups, 8 in each, group 1: receiving sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (control); group 2: daily oral administration fluconazole dose of 50 mg/kg body weight for 30 days (model group) and group 3: daily oral administration fluconazole dose of 50 mg/kg body weight for 30 days and daily oral administration TXCB dose of 180 mg/kg body weight for 60 days. Semen was collected at baseline, after 30 days and after 60 days using an artificial vagina. Reaction time (RT) was recorded during semen collection; serum testosterone (ST) was determined after semen collection and the testicular morphometry was evaluated at the end of study. Semen was evaluated for volume (EV), pH value, sperm concentration (SC), total sperm motility (TSM), progressive sperm motility (PSM), non-progressive sperm motility (NPSM), sperm immotility (SIM), total sperm output (TSO), dead sperm (DS) and abnormal sperm (AS) of spermatozoa were determined. The results were showed significant (p < 0.05) increase in RT, SIM, DS and AS in model group when compared to the control group. On the other hand, EV, SC, TSM, PSM, TSO and ST level decreased significantly (p < 0.05) in model group than control. There were recovered in RT, EV, SC, TSO, TSM, PSM, SIM, DS and AS in group 3 and there was significant increased in ST than control group. On testicular morphometry, there was a decrease in spermatogenesis in model group.
