RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SMOKING STATUS AND SPIROMETRIC PARAMETERS IN MALE TOBACCO ADDICTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
The aims of this study were to determine spirometric parameters and evaluate the relationship between the these variables and level of addiction, number of cigarette per day, smoking duration in male tobacco addicts. The studying subjects included 180 men in which there were 90 smokers (age 39,1 ± 8,1, height 163,5 ± 6,9) and 90 non-smokers (age 39,0 ± 9,4, height 164 ± 5,6). The pulmonary function test were carried out by HI-801 spirometer. The following parameters were measured: FVC, FEV₁, FEF₂₅-₇₅%, PEF. Assessment of relationship between smoking duration, number of cigarette per day, level of addiction and the spirometric parameters. The result showed that most value measured in smokers were significantly lower than those of non-smokers (p<0,05). There were significant negative correlations between FEV₁ and level of addiction (r = -0,732, p<0,01), smoking duration (r = -0,456, p<0,01). There were negatively correlations between FEF₂₅-₇₅% and level of addiction (r = -0,546, p<0,01), number of cigarette per day (r = -0,453, p<0,01). There was a positive correlation between number of cigarette per day and level of addiction (r = 0,836).
