Abstract

Objective: Investigating the level of DOPAC in the cerebrospinal fluid and the associations with some symptoms in patients with Parkinson’s disease. Methods: Crosssectional and prospective studies were carried out on 59 patients with Parkinson’s disease. Results: 91.6% of total subjects showed their age more than 50 years old with the subjects from 60 to 69 years old occupied 40.7%. The average age (SD) was 63.4 (9.4) years olds, the rate of males was lower than females (male/female: 0.51). The average concentration of DOPAC in the cerebrospinal fluid was gradually decreased following the levels and stages of Parkinson’s disease, but there was no significant difference among the levels and stages of Parkinson’s disease. There was a negative correlation between the concentration of DOPAC and the scores of UPDRS with correlated coefficients -0.814. Conclusion: These findings indicated the change of DOPAC levels in the cerebrospinal fluid associated with some symptoms in the patients with Parkison’s disease.
