Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to investigate perceived stress in patients with metabolic syndrome. Methods: A total of 68 patients diagnosed with metabolic syndrome according to NCEP-ATP III criteria were collected. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS)-10 questionnaire in Vietnamese was used to assess the level of perceived stress in patients. Results: The average age of the study subjects was 56.2 years. The proportion of patients showing signs of perceived stress with a PSS-10 score > 13 was 32.4%. Age was negatively and significantly correlated with the PSS-10 score. The PSS-10 score was  significantly higher in female patients than those in male patients. Similarly, the group with hypertension and the group with 5 components of metabolic syndrome had significantly higher PSS-10 scores than the group without hypertension and the group with 3 components of metabolic syndrome. Conclusion: The proportion of patients showing signs of perceived stress in patients with metabolic syndrome was 32.4%. Age, gender, hypertension, and the number of metabolic components were factors influencing perceived stress in patients with metabolic syndrome.
